Suffolk Sails was started by Jim Welland after partnering Clarence ‘Austin’ Farrar at Seahorse Sails and later Austin Farrars Sailmakers. Suffolk Sails started life in a small workshop next door to Robertsons boatyard on the river Deben in Woodbridge, liable to flooding it wasn’t long before the loft moved to it’s current premises down river next door to the famous Tidemill in Woodbridge, Suffolk. We are fabricators experienced in a wide range of different types of fabrications with many years of experience between ourselves. We do work ranging from normal garden gates to steel structures for local building firms. Our main stay of work is in the acoustics field where we can manufactuer silencers for a wide range of applications including building blower packages using the roots type blowers which are used on submraines. The Noble System of hollow wooden mast construction was invented by a Mr Barry Noble in Bristol England in 1986 primarily for unstayed masts on such boats as Galway Blazer and Jester. He sold the rights to the idea to Mr R Mason who successfully applied for a patent having first proved that it was a unique system of hollow wooden tube/mast construction, Patent no 2112706. Mr mason then went on with his son to form Noble Masts, and it is still the father and son team that build the Masts that are now supplied all over the world.
