But continue up the Medina a little further, and it all gets more relaxed; arrive at East Cowes Marina and you’ll find everything very chilled indeed. There’s a brilliant pub there too.

In a sheltered corner of Portsmouth Harbour, just inside the harbour entrance, lies Haslar Marina - it's the one with the Big Green Lightship which you can see from everywhere. Surrounded by bars, restaurants, shops and tourist attractions, it's a great base for Solent sailing and, with no tidal issues, offers great access to all five oceans.
