Naval architect and maritime consultant Ian Darley specialises in bespoke work boat designs, providing a comprehensive professional ‘all inclusive’ service from concept, through building of the vessel to launch and ‘in service’ back-up thereafter. A typical commercial vessel design contract would comprise; feasibility study, tendering, contract negotiations, detailed design drawings, supervision of construction and stability book, or any parts thereof.

I have over 40 years experience boatbuilding and operating in the historic vessel restoration world. I can offer a compete service to charitable trusts to restore and operate historic vessels. Current Lottery funded projects I am involved with are the Kings Lynn cockle boat ‘Baden Powell’ and the Chelmer Lighter ‘Susan’.

Mike Clarke is a canal and industrial historian who has also researched the construction of wooden inland and coastal vessels. He lived for five years on a wooden Leeds & Liverpool Canal boat, and has been a self-employed consultant for over twenty years. His work with the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Society won a Waterways Renaissance Award, and is involved with the education and interpretation programme for the historic L&LC boat Kennet.
