History
SCOTIA was built as a special order by James N. Miller and Son Ltd in St Monans, Fife, in June 1930, as a Methil Pilot vessel. She is a wooden pilotboat built by Millers in 1930 in St Monans Fife and worked out of Methil. The owner is currently working on getting more information about her service history and where she has been since. Since he purchased her in 2019, he has stripped her down ready for her restoration. SCOTIA was built for Amalgamated Ports Ltd and is believed to be one of four supplied to them. She was built with pitch pine planking and had a very heavy deck of 2 thickness for extra strength with cotton between. Her overall length is 37ft and 9ft beam and she could be operated by a single person. On speed and stability trials at the time she could reach a speed of 8.5 knots with the 30hp engine that was fitted. She is very graceful when under way.
Update, July 2023: vessel now under restoration in Cornwall.
