History
Originally built for Trinity House in 1960 and believed to be one of three similar vessels MV Landward is a powerful diesel driven pilot cutter 70 feet in length. MV Landward was originally based at Cowes on the Solent, Isle of Wight, then moving further west to Totland. As a pilot vessel, MV Landward had a crew of four, skipper, engineer and two deckhands. Her claim to fame was as the lead vessel in the flotilla that took Sir Winston Churchill's body down the Thames following his death and she is believed to have carried his regalia (but not his coffin) on this occasion.
Her present condition is 95% + original but requiring restoration of the below decks accommodation and waterproofing of 50% of the main deck to prevent rainwater ingress. She has many spares and tools with her including two complete spare engines. She is presently for sale by her current owner who would consider a shared ownership scheme with 5 or 6 other persons (August 2022).
