East Midlands Councils is a consultative forum for local government in the East Midlands. It represents the interest of local councils to national government and other organisations and enables local councils to work together on strategic issues.

It concentrates its work in areas where, by working together, we can add value for our member councils and it will speak up for the people and communities we represent, ensuring that local government has an effective voice in its dealings with GO-EAST, EEDA, Westminster, Whitehall and other organisations.

We exist to champion local authorities and to work on behalf of their communities.

The aim of the Association of North East Councils is to represent the interests of local authorities and the communities they serve in the North East.

In speaking for local government in the North East, we are a collective voice and a stronger voice. The Association has access to a wide range of local, regional, national and European policy makers. We carry out lobbying and policy work on behalf of local government.

The LGA is the national voice for local government. We work with and for councils to achieve the best possible outcomes for its communities at all levels of government and beyond.

HELM (Historic Environment Local Management) provides accessible information and guidance to decision makers in local authorities, regional agencies and national organisations whose actions affect the historic environment. The HELM programme was set up by English Heritage in 2004 with the aim of working with key partners to provide the tools to manage change in the historic environment with increased skill and confidence.

Now under the Historic England umbrella.

The coast of the North East of England from Berwick in the north to Whitby and beyond in the south, has an extremely rich maritime, historic and cultural heritage.

The Trust was formed to make a positive contribution to the renewal of interest in traditional seagoing activities in the region. The main emphasis is on the care, maintenance, restoration and reconstruction of wooden vessels.

The Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre is at 36 Eastborough, Scarborough (open Wednesday to Sunday 11am till 4pm, entrance is free). A small changing exhibition area is complimented by an archive of documents, maps, photographs and artefacts about Scarborough and the Yorkshire coast's maritime history.
