Ian Nicolson was apprenticed to the traditional designer, Fred Parker and was one of the team involved in the first post-war rebuild of large Fife schooner ALTAIR. He did his journeymanship at John I Thornycroft's and later worked with Thornton Grenfell, who is widely considered Canada's (and indeed North America's) finest designer of traditional wooden fast motorboats and power cruisers. The Outboard Shop

The business was launched in 2006 with the aim of selling new outboard engines, as well as outboard servicing, repairs and the provision of outboard parts. Our fully equipped 1,500 square foot workshop and showroom enables us to provide an extensive range of outboard services and related products. Where owners have problems is delivering their engine or boat to our workshop we are happy to travel and provide on-site servicing. If required, we can travel and remove engines for workshop servicing. In short, we aim to provide products and services tailored to the needs of individual boat owners.

Alfred Mylne & Co

Alfred Mylne designs were always admired for their elegance, and this was one reason why many owners came to him for cruisers of every size. He also produced One-Design classes and racing dinghies, launches and some commercial craft. In addition he bought a yacht building yard with his brother Charles and ran this from 1911 until he handed it over to his nephew, Alfred Mylne II in 1946 when he retired. Mylne ran the design office and yacht yard through both World Wars, producing craft for the Royal Navy as well as major components of flying boats for the Royal Naval Air Service.
