History
RALLY was built in 1926 by William Booth Would of Hull, presumably for the transport of dry cargo throughout Yorkshire and the surrounding counties. She was originally of sail propulsion only.
From 1928 onwards, she was owned by the Acasters of Goole, a family dedicated to the transport of cargo in the region, who fitted her with a diesel engine and increased the fore cabin. Up until the late 1950s, she was used to transport coal on the Dearne & Dove Canal, after which she is know to have been transporting Belgian sand from Goole to Swinton.
In 1970, RALLY was purchased by J Hargreaves of Leeds. Later was purchased by D Harris, who made some changes to her, such as putting up a steel roof at the back. At some point, she was renamed RALEIGH, and purchased by J Jackson, based at Bethells Bridge Boat Club, Hempholme, Driffield Canal. In 2008, she was purchased by the current owners who renewed the bottom with steel, removed 5 tonnes of concrete from the bow, and installed a new Cummins 6 cylinder engine. She is currently based at Bethells Bridge Boat Club.
