History
This is a rare surviving example of a cutter with a Kitchen rudder (or more properly Kitchen's Patent Reversing Rudders.) The Kitchen rudder was invented by Admiral Jack Kitchen during the First World War. Its purpose was to allow a fully steerable reverse gear. It was widely used, particularly by the US Navy, in between the World Wars but few examples survive.
