WORKSHOP TECHNICIAN
SALARY: £28,000 – £30,000 (DEPENDENT ON EXPERIENCE)
HOURS: FULL-TIME, MONDAY – FRIDAY

This role is based within Boathouse 4, an historic boatshed housing our collection of heritage vessels. This collection includes some vessels that are operational and moored on our pontoon network, and others that are on display inside the Boathouse or undergoing restoration by a skilled and enthusiastic group of volunteers lead by a small staff team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a unique maritime heritage setting, in a workshop where traditional boatbuilding skills and knowledge are put into practice every day in order to restore and maintain our collection; and where our volunteers come to utilise long-held skills, learn new skills and share a love of heritage vessels and maritime history with each other and the visiting public.

The Workshop Technician facilitates the effective and safe operation of the Boathouse 4 workshop and associated activity; managing stores and stock, checking and maintaining handheld tools and workshop machinery, ensuring safe working procedures and that relevant safety legislation is adhered to, and supporting the delivery of fire safety in the building.

The successful applicant will need a familiarity with a broad range of handheld wood working tools, their uses and maintenance. They will have a sound knowledge of health and safety in a workshop environment and experience of operating stock control (consumable materials and tools) and the use of standard software applications – email, Word and Excel. Well-developed communication skills will enable them to provide guidance and advice to volunteers from all walks of life and build collaborative working relationships with colleagues and volunteers alike.

Further details on the role are set out in the job description and person specification.
