The 1926 Brixham Trawler Vigilance is in the final stages of a full rebuild at Stirling & Son Boatyard in Southampton. Once the project is complete - hopefully in April 2025 - Vigilance will return to her home port of Brixham, Devon.
The prime objective of Vigilance of Brixham has been, and continues to be, the preservation of Vigilance for the enjoyment of as many Brixham residents and visitors as possible. The aim is to give people the opportunity to experience the unique delights of visiting and sailing this historic boat and in the process raise awareness of, and perpetuate, the skills and craftsmanship required to keep her ship-shape.
All aspects of the running of Vigilance, administrative, maintenance and sailing, are carried out by a team of volunteers, who all play a vital part in the continuing life of this historic vessel.
The team are now seeking new volunteers to get involved with the project once she is back in Brixham. There is much to do to make her self sustaining for the next century. There are some remaining specific gaps in the volunteer team, but any help is very welcome. Can you help with the following?
IT lead: Managing IT needs including booking, website, “Friends Of” website, CRM software
Commercially Endorsed Skippers: Skippering on paid-for sailing trips
Database person: Manage customer and volunteer contacts, ensure GDPR compliance, download email marketing and newsletter lists
Image Librarian: Collate historical and marketing images and manage their storage
Website lead: Maximise the performance of the website in terms of generating customers and volunteers
Publications person: Generate revenue through the sale of booklets, etc. Provide educational materials.
Shipwrights, Electricians, Engineers and Other Trades: Assist with the remaining repair works once back in Brixham.
Fundraisers: Implement fundraising initiatives to generate money to preserve Vigilance for the future
If you are interested in any of these roles, or would like to get involved in any capacity, please email rob@vigilanceofbrixham.co.uk, message them on social media, or pop in to Stirling & Son to speak to one of the Vigilance team.
