Pilgrim needs You!
The 1895 Brixham Trawler Pilgrim is listed on the prestigious National Historic Fleet, for vessels of pre-eminent national and regional importance. She has a long and interesting history, and now sails with guests in and around the South West coast, Isles of Scilly, Channel Islands and Brittany. Open to the public throughout the summer months for free tours, the Pilgrim Heritage Sailing Foundation is run wholly by volunteers with income used to sustain operations and sound maintenance of the vessel. Pilgrim promotes the fishing and boat building heritage of Brixham and traditional sailing skills. Guests are encouraged, taught and supervised in sailing her "hands on"
Pilgrim does, and always will, need volunteers to help us look after her for future generations to appreciate and enjoy. Members of our charity, the Pilgrim Heritage Sailing Foundation, come from all backgrounds, but we share both a love of our beautiful ship and also a deep responsibility to preserve this key piece of Britain’s maritime heritage.
We urgently need more volunteers to join our current membership, both those with certain key skills and of course anyone able and willing to devote their time and energy to care for Pilgrim.
We need, in particular, members with skills and experience in each of; woodworking (even better would be shipwright experience!), plumbing, engines/mechanical equipment, electrics, organisational management, events management and fundraising.
We do have some members with skills in these areas, but none of us are getting any younger! Recent retirees or those in part-time working and wanting to throw themselves into a new project, could be ideal since we recognise the difficulty for those in full employment to commit their time, although of course all help is welcomed, whether young or simply young-at-heart!
