The Swan Trust SCIO, caretakers of Shetland’s iconic Tall Ship, Swan, are seeking a new Trustee to join the board, with specific skills in finance to take on the Treasurer role.
This is a highly responsible position, overseeing an average turnover of £131,167 annually (based on the past 5 years).
A handover period will be managed for the role with the current Treasurer who will remain in position as a Trustee. Additional support is provided from paid administrative staff and the Operations Manager.
This is not a paid role, though any expenses incurred may be claimed through the formal claims procedure.
The Trust has a core focus of facilitating access to sail training experiences, particularly by young people, and teaching all interested parties to sail a traditional Fifie, such as Swan, thereby keeping traditional sailing skills alive. Restoring and maintaining this iconic vessel is a key priority for the organisation, as is making the facility available for the people of Shetland to enjoy, and access a tangible piece of our maritime heritage.
Trustees play an active role in developing projects and carrying out maintenance works or crewing aboard the boat. A Treasurer role would include assistance with preparing information required for funding requests and annual budgeting exercises.
