Honorary Secretary of the Maritime Heritage Committee of the SNR

The Maritime Heritage Committee (MHC) of the Society for Nautical Research (SNR) is looking for a volunteer to act as its Honorary Secretary (HS).  Alongside the Chair of the Committee, the Honorary Secretary arranges and takes the minutes for committee meetings, of which there are three or four a year (some via Teams or Zoom only).  In addition, the Honorary Secretary helps oversee MHC projects, liaises with other maritime heritage organisations, and helps process its small grants programme and the award of the Victory Medal.

The MHC administers the SNR's activities in matters pertaining to maritime heritage, historic craft and underwater archaeology, seeking to advance public education on these subjects and making recommendations to the SNR Council.  Having recently been restructured, this committee is in the process of evolving into a body which can more actively assist the maritime heritage community and is looking for someone with energy, ideas and an interest in maritime heritage to participate in this process.  The SNR has good relations with a wide range of people and organisations involved in maritime heritage, craft conservation and the preservation of the UK's underwater archaeology and would provide the successful applicant with access to this network.

The role can be carried out entirely from home as SNR do not have an office.
