Hull Maritime Foundation (HMF) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, set up by (but now independent of) Hull City Council to support the city’s maritime museum and heritage through fundraising, networking and awareness-raising.

Hull Maritime Foundation is working in collaboration with Hull Culture and Leisure Limited and Hull City Council on the fundraising and relationship building for this project which will not only benefit and preserve our maritime heritage but have significant impacts for education, engagement with heritage, employment opportunities and city-wide prosperity.

The objects for the charity are:
a) to advance education in the subject matters of maritime and seafaring history, natural sciences in the marine environment and the arts in Kingston upon Hull in particular and the community at large through the work, collections, activities and programmes of Hull's Maritime Museum, the North End Shipyard, the Arctic Corsair and Spurn Lightship.
b) to advance and promote the city’s maritime history, heritage and culture through supporting Hull’s Maritime Museum, the North End Shipyard, the Arctic Corsair and Spurn Lightship and the “Hull Maritime” project.

Become a trustee
The Foundation is looking for committed individuals who can help us increase our capacity and achieve our goals. The Foundation’s current focus is to support the Hull Maritime project in meeting its £2.6m match funding target towards which £1m has so far been raised.

The Foundation currently has eight trustees and we are aiming to recruit three new trustees for an initial term of three years to commence from September 2024. Find out more here.

What’s in it for you?
It is recognised that being a trustee takes a valuable commitment of time and we want to reward your support with a once in the lifetime experience of being part of Hull’s elevation as a cultural destination.

It is a complex project and the door is open to develop your experience of being a charity trustee and potentially as Chair of the Trustees to lead the evolution of the charity and create a lasting legacy.

Trustees are able to claim reasonable expenses and benefit from training in fundraising, leadership and charity management.

We aim to become a successful development board that will support the museums and heritage vision to ensure that the museums and maritime collections are used and cherished by the widest possible audiences and especially to further education and informal learning that will benefit all generations.

Hull Maritime Foundation is looking to appoint three officers:

  • Chair
  • Deputy Chair
  • Treasurer
