Hours: 12 hours per month, flexible

Duration: Mid-May to mid September (4 months)

Reports to: Henry Cleary and Trevor Godbold, Trustees MHT and to Heritage Harbours National Working Group

Main purpose:

Heritage Harbours aim to safeguard and promote the port facilities, structures and and natural features which help heritage vessels continue in operation and create a lively, attractive and enterprising local environment. Benefits to regeneration, communities and business are a key feature for the 12 locations that have joined the scheme.

The overall aim is to find national approaches which increase support and engagement for heritage harbour activities locally in the form of events, displays and heritage engagement as well as campaigns and community support to help achieve aims eg on planning, funding and public body support.  Most projects are led by volunteers and most promotion is via websites, Facebook, other social media and local media.  As well as maximiising the benefit from schemes such as Heritage Open Days, there is a particular need to develop an initial list of potential future national initiatives which would benefit the network as a whole eg through cultural, recreational or educational projects in which all locations could participate as with Heritage Open Days.

Scope:

Role is focused on the 12 locations currently in the scheme (plus any joining later this year) liaising as necessary with national partners (National Historic Ships UK, Historic England and MHT)

Main duties:

1. Maximise contribution of 2024 Heritage Open Days by checking all HH relevant events are included liaising with HH locations as needed and explore scope for any additional entries.

2. Identify current opportunities for promoting the HH network as a whole.

3. Identify ideas for further development enabling the heritage benefits of the HH network to be promoted as a whole, including scope for sponsorship, to a wider audience (ie not just specialists).
