Insurance for Thames Sailing Barges, Sailing Smacks, Historic Commercial Craft, Yachts and other vessels. In 1974, Alan Peake, at the request of the barge-owning members of the TBSC (now TSBT), established an insurance scheme for Thames Barges and, in 1993, a similar scheme was arranged for Sailing Smacks for the Sailing Smack Association. Appointed Hon. Insurance Adviser to TBSC, SBA and SSA.
Brought up on the Thames and Medway (late father was M.D. of the New Medway Steam Packet Company, which ran excursion steamers on the Thames and Medway, including the Dunkirk paddle steamer 'Medway Queen'), Alan Peake has been actively involved with historic ships since the early 1970s.

He was part of the team that restored the coal-fired paddle steamer KINGSWEAR CASTLE and is now a Trustee of the owning company and Chairman of the operating company.

In 1974, he arranged a guarantee with Lloyd's Underwriters to allow the T.S. ARETHUSA to be saved from the breakers and arranged the insurance for the EYE OF THE WIND on her 1978/1980 global circumnavigation for Operation Drake. Alan Peake is a Trustee of the Medway Maritime Trust (JOHN H AMOS / VIGILANT).
