The company, based in the English Lake District, is run by Stephen and Christine Beresford. Stephen worked as a chartered engineer for many years before deciding on a career change and trained to become a boat builder at the International Boatbuilding Training College at Lowestoft, graduating with distinction and establishing the business in March 2008. The company uses responsibly managed and ethically sourced timber and has the infrastructure to certify and eco-label all its boats. Good Wood Boat is one of the first boatbuilding companies worldwide to gain Forest Stewardship Council certification.
