History

AMELIA (ON979) is an Oakley Class Lifeboat built in 1964 by J Samuel White & Co of Cowes, Isle of Wight. She was originally named JAMES AND CATHERINE MACFARLANE and had twin 52hp Porbeagle engines. In 1967, she was renamed AMELIA.

She was originally a part of the RNLI Relief Fleet, serving primarily in the east and northeast coast of England. Between 1978 and 1991, she was the Scarborough Station lifeboat. Throughout her service life, she was launched 159 times and saved 30 lives.

In 1992, she was sold out of service, and in 1993 she was put on display at Charlestown, Cornwall. Recently, she was purchased by her current owner, and is at South Ferriby, North Lincolnshire, awaiting conservation work.
