History

The design of the ALERT is based on the lines of smuggling vessels of the decade beginning 1830. She is 37' on deck and weighs approximately 15 tons. Her Oak framed hull is clinker built up to the whales with three thicker Oak carvel planks forming the whales. All fastenings are copper and bronze.

She has a dipping lug rig. Following her launch in 2007 at Morwellham Quay living history museum, her maiden voyage sailed to Iceland via the Irish Sea, Scottish West Coast, Orkney's, Shetland and the Faroes.

On her return she sold to a naval officer and has remained in the same ownership to date, being based in Plymouth from where she has cruised extensively in the South West, across to Northern France and over to the Isles of Scilly. She is annually hauled up the No. 1 Covered Slipway in Plymouth for maintenance work and is kept in very good operational condition by her owner.
