History
JOHN GELLATLY HYNDMAN (ON 923) was built in 1955 by J.S. White of Cowes, Isle of Wight, through a legacy from Miss Elise Amelia Hyndman of Greenock, Scotland. She was originally stationed at Stronsay Lifeboat Station, Orkney, where she remained until 1972. During her time there, she was launched 116 times and saved 47 lives. After that, she was a part of the Relief fleet until 1985, launching 51 times and saving 45 lives.
In 1985, she was sold out of service with 167 launches and 92 lives saved. At some point, she was acquired by an enthusiast group who owned her for 15 years, before being sold to her current owner in 2016. She was then shipped to the Caribbean and as of 2024 has had a liveaboard conversion and is based in Antigua.
Update, October 2024: Vessel under new ownership.
