History

SILVER SULA is a gentleman's motor yacht built in 1964/65 having been commissioned by Mr John Stenhouse of Glasgow, built at Rosneath and launched on 23 March 1965 by his wife.

John Stenhouse sold SILVER SULA in 1985 to a retired Army Major Aubrey Earle Pickwoad DFC who lived aboard in Dartmouth Harbour until his death in 1992.  Ownership then passed to a French lady Mme Suzanne Lemelin, who registered her under the Canadian flag and moved her to Brittany until 1995.  She was then bought by Mr Simon Hannam who found her in very poor condition.  From 1996, an extensive refit was undertaken by RJ Prior & Son (Burnham) Ltd and then continued by the previous owner, including installation of new engines and machinery.  Ownership passed to Mrs Eileen Stedall in 2001, then to Gerry Olsen in 2003, and to the present owners in 2017.

Although Silver's yard at Rosneath is no longer building yachts, it was in its day considered to be one of the finest builder of motor yachts in the UK.  John Bain, the designer of the "Ormidale" class was also recognised as a first class naval architect.  Out of the 15 or so Ormidales built, there are only a handful remaining.  SILVER SULA is believed to have been the last built and the only one classed Lloyds 100 A1 on building.

SILVER SULA is now based on Beaulieu River and Bembrige, Isle of Wight.
