History
Built in 1942 by Leo Robinson of Tewkesbury with a hull of mahogany and a steam compound engine by W Sisson & Co., Gloucester, GENERAL JENKINS was built for the Admiralty as HSL 340.
She was acquired in 1962 by R E Winn, restored by Willoughby Bros., Plymouth and re-named GENERAL JENKINS.
GENERAL JENKINS was used in an advert for Bournville Chocolate which was filmed in Bantry Bay around 1981. It was then reported that the vessel sank in Southern Ireland in 1983, but was bought by a private owner in 1984 who maintained her as a yacht, following hull restoration by Henwood & Dean, Hambledon and new machinery installed by Langley Engineering, Cowfold.
She was believed to have been anchored in Glengarriff for a long while afterwards and then broke loose in a gale, recovered and beached at the pier where she remained for about a year before being sold as part of a larger auction of a huge collection owned by a resident from Kilbrittain.
