History

DYARCHY 2/DRAGONERA was built by Camper & Nicholsons to Laurent Giles’ plans in 1954 for a George Hoag, who was a diplomat in London, after he had sailed on the original Laurent Giles DYARCHY (built in 1938) and had been impressed with the build, especially the new design of the topsail track and the speed and strength of the design.  It is believed that Camper & Nicholsons sent men to Ferrer in Majorca, where the vessel was built.

This vessel is built to the same plans of the original DYARCHY with the exception of the window design in the deckhouse and a slight adjustment to the interior.  She is also a foot or so longer than the original.

She spent most of her early years as a pleasure yacht in the UK, taking part in Cowes week and travelling from time to time abroad, until eventually she was sailed across the Atlantic and then around to San Fransisco.  She was left unused there and had been converted from her famous gaff rig to a sloop.  Eventually she was shipped back to the UK where she’s in the process of being restored to her original specification.

The original DYARCHY of 1938 is based in Italy.  Her sistership, DYARCHY 2/DRAGONERA is believed to be the only UK example of this class.
