History

LINNET is a narrow boat of timber construction built by W H Walkers & Brothers Limited of Rickmansworth in 1936. The vessel has an inboard diesel engine by Lister, model SR2 installed in 1967. As one of 62 Town Class butties she was built for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company. In about 1967 she was cut in half and the bow put into hire service with a steel cruiser stern housing the existing engine. She was sold into private ownership in about 1970 and was purchased by the present owners in 1973. LINNET is a good example of a Walker's built bow and hull with a unique motor stern in GUCCo style.
