History
Built in 1928 by Yarwoods of Northwich, OWL is a narrowboat originally of composite construction with an elm bottom, which has now been replaced with steel. Her engine is a Kelvin K2 diesel of 44 hp. Commissioned by Fellows, Morton & Clayton, she was worked by Bill & Joe Edwards of Suttons Stop, Coventry until a few years after nationalisation. Later, she was used as a maintenance boat in London for about 10 years. She caught fire in 1963 and was sold for £50. Subsequently, she was used as a houseboat on the Kennet & Avon Canal. She was bought by Paul Smith of Loughborough in the late 1960s and later passed through a succession of owners until being bought by her present owners in 1989. In 1998/9 OWL underwent a full restoration at The Warwickshire Flyboat Company.
