History
GELYCE was built by Camper & Nicolsons at Gosport in 1930, as the tender and yard launch to Sir Thomas Lipton's last challenger for the America's cup; the J-Class yacht SHAMROCK V. In 1946, she was bought by Hugh Goodson, who was an America's Cup contender himself. GELYCE has now been cared for by the present owner for over twenty years. Her hull is diagonally built, fastened with roves. She has a pointed bow, with a plumb straight stem slanting five degrees away from the vertical and a transom stern. Her current engine is an inboard Perkins diesel, model 5.6, with six cylinders and one hundred horsepower, made in 1945. She is in original condition and is a particularly fast and elegant craft.
Update, May 2024: GELYCE has undergone a complete restoration by Classic Restoration Services, Windsor. She is under new ownership - if you are the current owner or know who they are, please get in touch.
