History
ANNE is a prototype River class narrowboat, designed for British Waterways by E C Jones of Brentford in 1959. Her hull is made from steel plate with rolled sections for frames and gunwales. She has a pointed bow with a counter stern and a plumb straight stem. In 1999, her engine was a Lister inboard diesel, model HA2, 2cy, bore 4in x stroke 4.5in, 19bhp at 1500 revs, made in 1962. She was operated by British Waterways until 1963, and then sold to Thames Conservancy who used her on the Thames with effluent tanks. She was then sold to Five Towns Carrying who fitted a standard cabin and engine room. Her present owner uses her regularly and attends Museum displays and rallies around the country.
