Raybel Charters, based in Sittingbourne, has published 'A Sail Cargo Network for London and the Thames Estuary'. Funded by Lloyd's Register Foundation, this new report documents the activities and achievements of their sail cargo voyages to Kent and London since 2019.
The research led to an ongoing conversation between the many partners, businesses, customers and supporters that are involved in the emerging sail cargo network on the Thames, and opened up contact with new actors too.
It has raised awareness of the advantages, potential and reality of sail powered transport, and given us insights into how the sail cargo network could better coordinate and expand on the Thames and into London over the next three to five years. From this we have produced a ‘Sail Cargo Manifesto’, uniting the sector by setting out the actions we all believe are necessary to make over the coming years, including making proposals for change to other organisations.
