Full Circle is a 12 week, 2000 nautical mile sailing expedition crewed by 70 wounded injured and sick veterans and serving personnel aboard Tall Ships Spirit of Falmouth and Pellew. Delivered by Turn to Starboard in partnership with Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 it carries the Invictus Flag around the UK stopping at 22 ports with a multitude of events at each stop.
The trip will raise awareness of, and funds for Turn to Starboard who support veterans on their recovery journey through non-clinical therapeutic sailing adventure. It is an epic adventure and we would urge everyone to get behind it, and to support it by donating to our just giving campaign to purchase Pellew and support more veterans.
Their first passage from their home port of Falmouth to Plymouth was testing for both the novice and more experienced sailors onboard – the crews faced turbulent waters, but powered through together, helped by a steady supply of ginger biscuits.
Tempestuous seas greeted the crews as they rounded the headland demonstrating early on that this was no ordinary voyage. Resilience and grit were already the watchwords of the day. With several people onboard who have never sailed, this was always going to be quite an introduction to Tall Ship Sailing.
The crews were thrilled and slightly relieved to enter Plymouth Sound, where they were greeted by the Plymouth RNLI crew on their Severn class and Atlantic 85 lifeboats.
There will be shoreside events at each port such as welcome receptions, live music sessions aboard the ships, open boat days, and more. See their website for the complete schedule.
At various ports, they will be hosting Mess Deck Mornings on board Spirit of Falmouth and Pellew, welcoming local veterans and veteran groups for a cuppa, a chat, and some biscuits.
