Celebrating a milestone like no other, the Massey Shaw team recently marked the 90th birthday of the legendary Massey Shaw Fireboat! Though they were caught up in the whirlwind of festivities, they couldn't let this moment pass without sharing the joy of the occasion.
A few weeks ago, volunteers gathered to honour this monumental vessel with a cake cutting ceremony and a toast of bubbly. Laughter and camaraderie filled the air as we celebrated not just a boat, but a piece of living history. Built by J Samuel White of Cowes, Isle of Wight in 1935, the Massey Shaw is not just any vessel; it's a Dunkirk Little Ship, a Blitz hero, and a long-serving stalwart of the London Fire Brigade.
This celebration was a testament to the importance of preserving heritage vessels like the Massey Shaw for future generations. Each rivet and plank tells a story of bravery, resilience, and service. By keeping these vessels alive, we ensure that the rich tapestry of our maritime history continues to inspire and educate.
Here's to the Massey Shaw Fireboat and all the dedicated volunteers who keep her spirit afloat. May she continue to sail through history, reminding us of the courage and dedication of those who came before us. Cheers to 90 glorious years and many more to come!
