DAMSEL IN DISTRESS

The owners of National Historic Ships UK's Static Flagship of the Year 2024, Lady Daphne, have started a crowdfunder to help pay for the costs of dry docking and emergency relocation.

Recent storm damage to the lock gate in Charlestown Harbour meant owners Sam and Andy had to urgently relocate Lady Daphne to a safer place to avoid damage from the now tidal harbour in Charlestown. This unplanned relocation has left them with additional berthing costs as well as a lack of income from their planned winter events programme. Added to this, Lady Daphne suffered damage to her propshaft, which snapped as they headed to her temporary berth at Penryn.

They were already planning to get her into dry dock in Spring 2025 to have a full check over and freshen up – a challenge in itself, given the enormous cost of this type of treatment and a lack of surplus income to pay for it.

A combination of a reduction in income and unforeseen outgoings in the short term, on top of already daunting plans, has driven the owners to hope that a crowdfunding effort will help rescue Lady Daphne from an uncertain future. They hope to raise £50,000 to cover the costs of a dry dock visit in Spring 2025 and the significant additional costs of keeping the vessel berthed somewhere safe until next year.
