History:

Built in 1964 by Newson’s and Sons, Oulton Broad, a 40' wooden boat.  She was originally used as a hire boat for Hoseasons holiday company.

SpruceGoose has been under the same ownership for around thirty years, and has been a much-beloved boat for all that time.  She has been maintained with meticulous care and undergone significant upgrades, various modifications, repairs, and enhancements to maintain and improve her condition, including:

  • Installation of a bow thruster for improved manoeuvrability
  • Upgraded flexible shaft for smoother operation
  • Rebuilding of the transom and aft deck for structural integrity
  • Replanking of the aft-end hull sides and bottom
  • Re-engined

Current Condition:

SpruceGoose is currently in need of some further work to bring her back to her former glory. Specifically:

  • A couple more planks on the bottom need replacing
  • Re-caulking to ensure she is watertight
  • Minor repairs on the wooden superstructure
  • Painting/Varnishing

Although there is some work required, it is manageable for an enthusiastic owner, either with the skills or the ability to hire a skilled professional.  There is a possibility of hiring a local boatbuilder to complete the work.  The current owner is available to walk any potential owner through the work needed.

Features:

SpruceGoose is not only a piece of boating history but also an extremely comfortable boat for living on or extended stays. She offers:

  • Spacious and comfortable living quarters
  • Classic wooden boat aesthetics
  • Potential for customization and personalization

The owner has a YouTube channel where he has documented the repairs carried out, showcasing the work and care invested in maintaining SpruceGoose.

The owner is asking £6,500 for full title of SpruceGoose.  The hard standing is paid up through until April.

SpruceGoose is a testament to traditional boat-building skills and offers a wonderful project for an enthusiastic owner.  This is a unique opportunity for someone who appreciates classic wooden boats and is ready to put in a bit of work to restore her to her prime condition.  Do not miss the chance to own a piece of maritime history.
