HISTORY:

ADAMANT was built in Birmingham as a long open Joey boat in 1890, maker unknown. A new boat was created in 1988 from two rescued Birmingham 'Day Boat' hulls c 1890s.  These were welded back to back to form the hull, and a new counter and cabin were added.  The new boat was designed by C. Stubbings at Stockton, Warwickshire, and modelled on a Bridgewater canal tunnel tug.  She was then sold and renamed GLADYS.  A steam plant was also fitted but not completed at this time.

GLADYS was sold to a private buyer in 1993. She first steamed at Easter 1995 and has steamed each year since. At some point she changed owners and reverted to her original name of ADAMANT.  After many years of adventures, the owner has decided it is time to hang up the coal shovel and let someone else have the fun.

CONDITION/ SPEC:

ADAMANT is powered by an 1890s Cochrane compound engine. This turns a 33.5 pitch x 26in propeller and a large 180 tube vertical firetube boiler with condenser, which is surprisingly economical. The boiler is three years into a ten year ticket and is in excellent condition.

The cabin is a basic 1980s fit out, sleeping 2/3. There is hot and cold water, a chemical toilet, saloon and kitchen.

The 56ft hull was surveyed recently and a small amount of remedial work is required below the waterline, nothing major, patches behind the knees and some welds renewing. The quote for the work required is approximately £2.5k. The owner is therefore asking for £30,000 less the cost of the remedial work.

This is a great boat for the right person.
