West Mersea Town Regatta, 16th August 2025
West Mersea Town Regatta takes place on Mersea Island in Essex, and has been running since 1838.
Sailing - Smack, IRC and Cruiser Fleets
The Sailing Races start Regatta Day events. The first start is at 11.00am, with about 100 boats taking part, split into 6 different classes.
Watersports events get under way in the early afternoon, with rowing races, an outboard motor balloon race, swimming race, and the always popular final event is Walking the Greasy Pole, which is rigged over the side of the Thames Barge Committee Boat.
Waterside attractions include displays, stalls, and entertainment, including Regatta t-shirts and regalia. A grand fireworks display takes place at 9pm.
Although the Regatta is usually held near to Mersea Week, it is independent and entirely self-financed. The Town Regatta is run by a hard working voluntary committee who are always keen to welcome new members. If you would like to help run this long established local event, please contact any committee member or email: wmtownregatta@gmail.com
