UK Maritime Heritage Forum 2-4 October 2024

Venue: National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Falmouth

The 2024 UK Maritime Heritage Forum will be hosted by National Maritime Museum Cornwall, the home of the National Small Boat Collection  It will take place between Wednesday 2 – Friday 4 October 2024, and is sponsored by Beckett Rankine Marine Consulting Engineers.

This year’s Annual Forum will revolve around the role of museums in Britain’s Coastal Experience: from small boats to the politics of contemporary collecting. We are hosting informative speaker sessions, where museum professionals and academics working within the maritime heritage sector will be addressing the themes of coastal communities and coastal resilience, as well as new narratives around interpreting the sea and the challenges of maritime heritage conservation.

Topics include:

  • Contemporary collecting coastal resilience.
  • The politics of collecting maritime stories such as coastal economies, climate crisis, etc.
  • Challenges of heritage conservation.
  • Small Boats, Big Stories: social relevance of small boats collections.
  • Interpreting the sea; new narratives and ways of presenting our maritime heritage.

The Forum is for anyone involved with maritime heritage, whether professional or volunteer-run museums, archives, historic or working ships.
