Shipping Forecast - part 2
Here is the second report (PDF file, 568k download) compiled by the English Heritage National Maritime Museum Partnership Project.
This second report completed in 2004 was principally concerned with reviewing the NHSC Designated Vessels List. It shows that the funding of the ships maintenance and the development of better conservation practices remains a major concern.
The Project Team finished this review with a very clear picture of the challenges faced by DV List vessels – particularly those in private hands. The funding of their maintenance and the development of better conservation practices remains a major concern. The team also came away very impressed with the enthusiasm and conscientiousness shown by the vast majority of owners. There really is something very important here which the NHSC must continue to help in any way it can. If we can continue to help bring together the consensus – the guiding coalition both at national, regional and local levels – we are in with a chance of developing together a properly funded and sustainable national policy for the conservation of historic ships in this country.
Do please read this second report and let me know what you think.
