Infrastructure Audit

In July 2007, National Historic Ships commissioned an Infrastructure Audit of all the skills and facilities available for the repair and maintenance of historic vessels in the UK.

This project is directly in response to comments from owners of craft on the National Register of Historic Vessels, who have experienced increasing difficulty in maintaining their historic ships in a world where old techniques and skills are dying out without the commercial demand for them.

Hannah Cunliffe has been appointed the consultant for this project and is carrying out a survey of the remaining skills and facilities linked to maritime heritage in the UK, as well as canvassing opinion amongst owners as to any problems they have had in locating these and what materials or labour has had to be sourced from abroad.

This information will be published on National Historic Ships' website in spring 2008, allowing vessel owners instant access to a nationwide database of services in the form of a readily searchable gazetteer of contact details.

To this end, we would be grateful if visitors to this website would fill in the form via the link below with any information on existing facilities, as well as including details of resources which may have been missing or hard to find during a vessel restoration or annual refit.

Companies offering relevant skills and services can download and complete the following form to ensure that the correct details are given on your company's free entry in the National Historic Ships Directory of Skills and Services:

When you have completed the survey or company entry form, please save the Word document and email it to nrhv@nmm.ac.uk.

Alternatively you can print it and post to:
