National Historic Ships publishes a guide to sources of funding for historic vessels
The Advisory Committee on National Historic Ships today published on its website guidance on funding for historic vessels.
National Historic Ships has released a guide to funding for historic vessel owners, including a listing of the major trusts and foundations which may offer support to this particularly vulnerable part of our heritage.
"This is very much a work in progress", commented the director of National Historic Ships, Martyn Heighton. "We are hopeful that the vessel owners will give us feedback on their successes – and their failures – so that we can constantly improve the advice and listing. Competition for funding is intense, but we need to pool our collective expertise in all ways – including fundraising."

The Advisory Committee on National Historic Ships is an independent body sponsored by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and established in 2006. Its remit is to advise government on all policy and technical matters relating to historic vessels in the United Kingdom, to advise grant making bodies such as the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Grant Fund for the Preservation of Industrial and Scientific Material (PRISM Fund) on applications from historic vessels and to support and advise historic vessel owners on developing sustainable futures.
