History
The only remaining operational coal fired paddle steamer in the UK and the only remaining river paddle steamer, KINGSWEAR CASTLE was built for the River Dart Steamboat Co. and ran between Dartmouth and Totnes 1924 – 1965, except during the Second World War when she was chartered to the American Navy at Dartmouth. Subsequently restored, she returned to service on the Rivers Medway and Thames in 1985.
These brief histories are compiled from details supplied by vessel owners and enthusiasts and from various reference works. National Historic Ships would be grateful for any corrections of facts or additional information for inclusion. Please contact ron.ellis@nationalhistoricships.org.uk
