History
Built in 1932 by Yarwoods of Northwich for Fellows Morton & Clayton, a narrowboat, converted to an icebreaker/tug in 1961. Prior to conversion BREAM was a very fast single motor with an extended hold. The conversion consisted of removal of the hold and fore end and the riveting on of a section of an LMS day boat. BREAM is one of the few survivors of boats that were specially created from earlier boats at a time when costs of new craft were prohibitive. Most other short craft created at that time, including the hold and fore end from BREAM have subsequently been converted back to become full length replicas of the original craft.
These brief histories are compiled from details supplied by vessel owners and enthusiasts and from various reference works. National Historic Ships would be grateful for any corrections of facts or additional information for inclusion. Please contact ron.ellis@nationalhistoricships.org.uk
