History

ABERYSTWYTH is a narrow boat butty with a wooden hull, built in 1952. She was a towed vessel, built for the Docks and Inland Waterways Executive, operating in the North West Division. She also traded in Willow Wren colours, carrying coal to Seddons at Middlewich. She was the penultimate boat built by Walkers and is believed to be the only survivor today. Recently, she suffered fire damage and needed a new back cabin and replacement planks.

These brief histories are compiled from details supplied by vessel owners and enthusiasts and from various reference works. National Historic Ships would be grateful for any corrections of facts or additional information for inclusion. Please contact ron.ellis@nationalhistoricships.org.uk
