History

Built in Brightlingsea in 1907, MY ALICE is a rare example of a Kidby smack, used to stow-boat for sprats. She would have anchored, dropped a net and waited for the tide to fill it with shoals of sprats; hauls were sometimes as large as 15 tons. With the catch in the hold, it was a race back to port to obtain the highest price. MY ALICE was thought to be one of the quickest. This large, powerful boat fished until 1985 and is now a successful racing craft. She was recently rebuilt in a restoration taking over six years. Currently (July 2007) she has been offered for sale by her present owner.
