History

BRILLIANT STAR is a barge, built by J. Scarr & Sons at Beverley in 1893. She was first registered on 22 August 1904 at Hull. She currently has a four kilowatt engine made by Gardner Engines Ltd. She was rebuilt in 1971 by the Yorkshire Dry Dock Co. Ltd. of Lime Street, Hull. After the re-fit, she retained a six cylinder engine made in 1948. Her owner at this time was Eliza Emma Elizabeth Eastwood of Ashville, who sold thirty-two shares in the vessel on 16 October 1973 to the current joint owner, who was designated managing owner.

In June 1997, BRILLIANT STAR was involved in a legal dispute over licensing with British Waterways, North East Region.
