About us
Paula Palmer
After leaving the financial market in 1999 after 10 years, I decided that getting up at 5.30am was no longer for me and chose to work locally. I joined the staff at the National Maritime Museum in 1999 and worked alongside the Director and Deputy Director as their personal assistant until 2000, when I was promoted to run a small department working with the Director of Galleries and Exhibitions. When the National Register of Historic Vessels was transferred from the University of St Andrews I was asked to train as the co-ordinator and have been doing so since. I have now transferred to the Unit full-time and my job varies considerably from running the office, being away and visiting vessels or organising our volunteers' time, which without their support would make my life a lot harder. I have met so many people over the last six years and built up a very good rapport with some of the vessels owners I have met, and now I couldn't think of anything else I would rather do.
