Jane Ryder

Jane Ryder Jane Ryder is qualified as a solicitor in both England and Scotland . For many years, she was a partner in a specialist maritime practice in Edinburgh , where she acted for ship builders, ship owners, insurers and financiers. She is the author of the textbook Professional Conduct for Scottish Solicitors.

From 1995 to 2003, she was the Director of the Scottish Museums Council where she developed national museums policy. She was the editor and co-author of the National Audit of Scotland's Museums , which drew on the experience of the original NHSC project. She was the Scottish Board member of the Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries, a UK-wide NDPB.

In December 2003, she was appointed as the first ever Charity Regulator in Scotland. She has been r esponsible for the creation of the office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) and for developing a modern regulatory system for 23,000 charities in Scotland.

She has a long and active interest in the area of historic ships and was a member of the National Historic Ships Committee from 1999 to 2003.
