Eric Kentley
Eric Kentley has a PhD in social anthropology, awarded for a study of fishing in Sudan. He joined the National Maritime Museum in 1981 and during his sixteen years there he held a number of posts including ethnographer, head of ship technology, corporate planner and head of exhibitions. In 1998, he left to join the Design Museum as Assistant Director responsible for exhibitions and education, where he mounted a range of exhibitions dealing with design from 19th-century structures to 21st-century graphics. Four years later, he left to pursue a freelance career as a museum and exhibition consultant, which included co-authoring the National Historic Ships Committee’s Shipping Forecast reports. His publications include a number of academic papers on traditional boat building and several children’s books on boats and ships.
